Lunch

You will have lunch at a pre-determined place during the day's trek. Your lunch will be prepared by the crew who rush ahead to set up and cook ahead of time. An example of the lunches we provide on the mountain includes tomato, French onion, leak soups, spaghetti, hamburgers, fried chicken, beef kebabs, as well as a range of vegetables and fruits. Pick from freshly prepared coffee, tea, or fruit juices to help wash it all down.

Not all companies offer hot, cooked lunch on the mountain.  Some budget companies will prepare packed lunch to bring on a climb. This lunch often consists of a boiled egg, sandwich, banana or orange and is offered with a tea or coffee provided by your guide from a flask.

Porters will go to get water from rivers and streams along the trail. Some of these will be purified with Aquatabs® water purification tablets and boiled for you at the beginning of the day to carry in your water bottle.

Carbohydrates Diet

  • Carbohydrates provide the energy your body needs for easier climbing.

  • Protein nourishes your muscles and replenishes the little tears you'll make during long days of walking.

  • Fat keeps you full for longer between meals.

Popular carbohydrate-rich dishes on Kilimanjaro include rice, pasta, and potatoes, beans and fresh fruit and vegetables accompany every meal.Since meat is difficult to digest at high altitudes and does not store well on the mountain, it is not served in large quantities there.
