CRATER CAMP

Experience the unique stay at Crater Camp which is only available by approval by Kilimanjaro Trekker and Safari on our Lemosho and Northern Circuit routes. Availing this opportunity will extend the standard itineraries to a 9-day Lemosho Crater Route and 10-day Northern Crater Route.  Instead of ascending the summint starting at midnight, we begin our ascent early in the morning, and we stay at Crater Camp once after the summit to ensure proper acclimation.

Typically, only the guides and clients reach the summit on all Kilimanjaro routes, leaving the rest of the mountain crew stationed at high camp, for example, Barafu. Opting for the Crater Camp route demands a lot more effort from us because the whole mountain crew and all expedition equipment must climb an extra 4,000 feet, resulting in increased expenses.

Should you stay at Crater Camp, there's a choice to make: either venture on a one-hour expedition to Reusch Crater or spend your time discovering the vicinity of Furtwangler Glacier. Reusch Crater is truly a breathtaking spectacle, almost perfectly round, with an ashy basin that reaches an astounding depth of 400ft (120m) and a width of 1,300ft (400m). This treasure is scarcely visited by thrill-seekers.

Staying at Crater Camp is undoubtedly appealing, but it comes with a perilous downside. The high elevation poses a significant risk, as insufficient acclimatization can lead to severe AMS.  The safety of clients and staff is of utmost importance, hence the 9 Lemosho Crater Route and 10 day Northern Crater Route are exclusively available on special requests.
